What changes the price

  • Roofline length. It's the biggest factor. Our designer measures it from your photo using your front door or garage door for scale.
  • One-story vs. two-story. Second-story rooflines need taller ladders and about twice the labor.
  • Trees. A full trunk-and-branch wrap on a 25-foot live oak takes dozens of strands. A small ornamental takes a few.
  • Style. Classic warm white, multicolor and red-and-white are the same price. Smart RGB adds $12/ft.
  • Plan. Lease is cheapest over time, Own costs a bit more up front, and Permanent costs the most up front but never needs reinstalling.

Five-year cost comparison

One-story home, 150 ft rooflineYear 1Years 2–5 (each)5-year total
Lease$1,400$980$5,320
Own (you hang it yourself after year 1)$1,520$0 plus your time$1,520
Permanent, Standard$5,100$0$5,100

Lease is the easiest choice if you never want to touch a ladder or store lights. Own is cheapest if you're comfortable rehanging them yourself. Permanent costs the most up front, but it works for every holiday and never comes down.

How to compare quotes

When you compare installers, ask:

  • Are the bulbs commercial-grade, or store-shelf sets?
  • Is takedown included? Is storage?
  • Are service calls free if something goes out mid-season?
  • Do I keep the lights, or are they leased?
  • Is the price per foot, or a package that hides the math?

We publish every price and show you a line-by-line estimate before you pay anything. Try the designer.
